Steve Stuebner has combined his writing skills and his marketing expertise to create a cottage industry producing guides to his favorite Idaho activities. Come learn how Steve turns his love of mountain biking, hiking, and paddling into best-selling books. He'll discuss the pros and cons of self-publishing vs. finding publishers for book projects, tips on writing a blog, and the importance of maintaining a presence in the social media.

 

As a free lancer Steve's work has appeared in The New York Times, Outside, and High Country News. As a marketing professional his clients have included the U.S. Forest Service, Tamarack Resort, and Valley Regional Transit.

Using Fiction Techniques in

Nonfiction Writing

 

Boise State University fiction writing professor Alan Heathcock's work has appeared in Zoetrope: All-Story, VQR, Kenyon Review, and Harvard Review. His work has been named to Best American Short Stories' list of "100 Distinguished Stories" twice, and his story, Peacekeeper, was included in the Best American Mystery Stories 2006. His book Volt will be released March 1, 2011.

 

Alan will describe how techniques used in fiction writing can strengthen our nonfiction work.
