Spondylitis, or the spondyloarthropathies, is a group of related inflammatory diseases that primarily affect the spine, although other joints and organs can be involved. It is believed that Spondylitis affects at least 1 in every 200 adults (about 0.5% of the U.S. population) making it as common as rheumatoid arthritis.
